Director of Development
On behalf of our client, Young Adult Cancer Canada, we are currently searching for a Director of Development. Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) exists to ensure that no young adult faces cancer alone. Our work is rooted in connection, community, and showing up — for the people we serve and for one another as a team.
As we continue to grow and evolve nationally, we are looking for a Director of Development who doesn’t just want a senior leadership role, but wants to be part of something deeply human, fast-moving, and meaningful.
This role is about more than fundraising. It’s about relationships, trust, teamwork, and helping build a sustainable future for a mission that truly changes lives.
About YACC
YACC is a national not-for-profit organization supporting adolescents and young adults affected by cancer. We are a passionate, collaborative team that works hard, adapts quickly, and takes care of each other along the way.
Our environment is:
- Flexible and people-first
- Fast-paced and constantly evolving
- Built on mutual respect, shared ownership, and stepping in when needed
We value progress over perfection, trust over hierarchy, and collaboration over silos.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development provides strategic and relational leadership across all fundraising and revenue activities. This person plays a key role in shaping YACC’s future — strengthening financial sustainability while working closely with a small, dedicated team that genuinely cares about the mission and each other.
This is a role for someone who enjoys building as they go, is comfortable with change, and sees opportunity in the unexpected.
While there is clear responsibility and accountability, no two weeks look exactly the same. At YACC, people step outside their job descriptions when needed — not because they have to, but because they want to support the team and the work.
What You’ll Be Doing
Leading Fund Development with Heart and Strategy
- Design and lead YACC’s annual fund development plan
- Set clear revenue goals and help the team work toward them in a thoughtful, achievable way
- Continuously refine systems and approaches as the organization grows
Building Meaningful Relationships
- Lead major gift strategy and signature fundraising initiatives
- Cultivate strong, authentic relationships with donors, partners, and supporters
- Ensure donors feel connected to the impact they are helping create
Being a Collaborative Team Member
- Lead and support a small development team with empathy, clarity, and trust
- Work closely with colleagues across the organization to align fundraising with programs and priorities
- Share insights, challenges, and progress openly with senior leadership and the Board
Using Data to Support Good Decisions
- Track performance and outcomes to understand what’s working and what can be improved
- Oversee donor systems and reporting to ensure accuracy and consistency
Who You Are
You are someone who thrives in a team-based, mission-driven environment. You bring structure and strategy, but you’re also flexible, adaptable, and comfortable pivoting when circumstances change.
You likely:
- Enjoy collaborating and sharing responsibility rather than working in isolation
- Are energized by growth, change, and building things that don’t yet feel “finished”
- Can zoom out to see the big picture and zoom in to make sure the details are handled
- Believe work can be meaningful and human
You care about the people you work with and value trust, transparency, and mutual support.
Experience & Skills
Required
- Significant experience in fund development, fundraising, or business development
- Comfort working with data, metrics, and performance tracking
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
Nice to Have
- Experience with donor databases or CRM platforms (including Raisin and DonorPerfect)
- Bilingualism (English/French)
Location & Work Style
YACC works nationally, with a central office in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. This role is remote-friendly within Canada. Some travel is required for in-person meetings, events, and gatherings throughout the year.
Compensation
YACC offers a comprehensive compensation package based on experience. The salary range for this position is $85,000–$100,000 annually.
Why Join YACC
If you’re looking for a role where:
- Your work has visible, real-world impact
- You’re trusted to lead, adapt, and grow
- You’re part of a team that genuinely supports one another
…then YACC may be the right place for you.
